Abstract
Similarly
,
Anderson
et
al
(2007)
evaluated
the
effect
of
Bt
cotton
introduction
in
Sub-Saharan
Africa
with or
without
WTO
trade
reform
. They
first
assess
the
effects
of
removing
subsidies
and
tariffs
on
cotton
, then they
simulate
the
introduction
of
GM
cotton
. The
results
show
that
SSA
would
gain
largely
from
both
changes
.
Net
farmer
income
increases
by
10%
if they
adopt
Bt
cotton
and it is
reduced
by
7%
if they
do
not
adopt
. Their
results
also
show
that it the
use
Bt
cotton
would be
more
beneficial
if it
precedes
trade
reform
than the
contrary
.
